HITLER, LOS AUTRÍACOS Y EL ANSCHLUSS /// HITLER, THE AUSTRIANS AND THE ANSCHLUSS

----------------------------------------------

Since beginning the Nazi regime assured that Hitler wanted to annex to his native Austria had. The Nazi program no secret in any way, nor the Mein Kampf. Hitler's nationalism is proposed to incorporate the Great Reich to all the "brothers of German blood"; otherwise, Austrian annexation constitute the first step for the German conquest of the East and Southeast des. Austria could provide soldiers for numerous divisions, mineral for many canyons, and, above all, provide the Führer a 'bridge lying "about their Danubian objectives.
Conceiving his plan to replace Hitler's loyal to his stance Austrian government and Austrian accept the incorporation into the Reich. To do this, he should try to give a coup disguised form, and what better way than in close comlicidad Austrian Nazis. With the plan already defined, Hitler gave the order to the Nazis in Austria to take power, given the order, the Austrian Nazis began to act in July 1934, through violence took the building of the official radio, interrupted the broadcast and they proclaimed the Nazi regime and forcing the doors of the federal chancellery, murdered Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss. Fortunately, the coup failed, and then, Hitler strove hastily inúltimente to convince international opinion that he was totally oblivious to what happened in Austria.
The coup of Austrian Nazis in July 1934, which cost the lives Chancellor Dollfuss, failed because of insufficient preparation. Hitler sought to break out of this impasse through a strategic withdrawal, rather crude, which provided him democracies. Mussolini became angry and even mobilized the troops; as the French (Laval) and English, they rejoiced at the "enfrentamieto" between Hitler and Mussolini, auqneu not they took advantage of it: Germany and Italy strengthened their friendship, since Austria was discussion area but "between only two" . In July 1936, Hitler signed a pact with Austria's aimed at restoring friendly relations between the two countries, formally assured the Führer. In the pact, Germany recognized the full indepdendencia of Austria, and this, in turn "German state" proclaimed by adopting with regard to Germany a policy inspired by the "brotherhood of race." Each government has solemnly pledged not to interfere in each other's internal affairs.
The pact clausalas cited were written with studied darkness, so they could then soemtidas successfully performed the most diverse. Austrian clung to guarantee its independence, and the weakness of Mussolini, if old guard, only served to encourage them to firar the pact proposed by Germany. The pact facilitated activity, initially clandesitan, Austrian Nazis, soon acutaron flying colors, obtaculizando the government with shady dealings and constant provocations, attacks on communists, then Jews, then socialists, Catholics and soon cataloged Communists and Jews, whose effectiveness has already been tested in Germany itself.
Within the area where they lived in Austria, something was about to happen that would change the destiny of the country and its inhabitants; Austrian police descurbrío the January 25, 1938, detailed plans of an imminent coup. It was too late to avoid it. Germany Cocentro its most powerful military forces in the border ready to invade Austria. Then, Hitler ordered the Austrian Nazis to present the new successor of Dollfuss, Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg an ultimatum demanding the suspension of pebiscito and this gave way, then another ultimatum: Schuschnnigg should hand over power to the Nazi Arthur Seyss-Inquart. Austrian Chancellor also yielded, but the federal president, Wilhelm Miklas, refused to bow. Then another new ultimatum from Berlin: if Miklas remained his attitude, German troops begin their march and would cross the border on March 13, 1938 at half past seven. Simultaneously, Seyss-Inquart received final instructions: just had "accepted the power," should proclaim that their primary objective was to restore oder and peace in Austria (where just everything remained calm) and then request military aid to Germany "prevent bloodshed."
In this situation, the Schuschnnigg chancellor, who had raised the idea of holding a referendum on March 13, resigned on March 11, was when the Wehrmacht crossed the border and entered Austria, before the resignation of his foreign minister, the President Miklas had to find a replacement for the position. Miklas offered the Social Christians rejected the charge but then nothing else to do and to pressure from Germany, Miklas appointed a new foreign minister to the Nazi Seyss-Inquart. Just arrived in the Seyss-Inquart Foreign Ministry introduced him to Miklas to sign annexation law to Germany, but Miklas resigned two days later on March 13. It is precisely at this moment that Seyss-Inquart took all the power and sanctioned by law. On Sunday March 13, 1938, the day when the referendum Schuschnnigg, Seyys-Inquart proclaimed the infamous "Anschluss" or annexation with Germany, thus Austria to the German Reich was integrated with the medieval name he was due to have been held Ostmark or East Mark, and Seyss-Inquart, of course, was the new governor of the new Germany. Few more evenings weeks, were held in Austria a parody of a referendum, Nazi-style, without secret ballot. The resulting figures were provided by the authorities themselves: 99.73% of Austrians approve of the "return to the Reich" was then that Hitler was able to make his triumphal entry into Vienna. The Western powers were outraged at what happened, but unmanned, considered that, ultimately, "the Austrians also were Germans."

LOS MUERTOS VIVIENTES /// THE WALKING DEAD

Wojtek, el Oso Soldado /// Wojtek, the Soldier Bear

Today I share with you the amazing story of Wojtek the Soldier Bear. Wojtek was a brown bear adopted by soldiers of the 22nd Artillery Supply Company of the Polish army in 1942. During the battle of Monte Cassino, where the battle was taking on very peligroas areas, the troops were to be supplied with food and ammunition through narrow and dangerous roads. Then they tied a box to the back of Wojtek and he began to advance safely. Polish Wojtek would trust to bear the heaviest boxes, and the bear did not disappoint them. A soldier drew the image of Wojtek moving to shoulder a large projectile; that would become the official insignia of the unit. Wojtek died in December 1963 at age 22.
